Speaking & Workshops

If your audience is overwhelmed by AI, stuck on starting a book, or quietly wondering if they’re “too late” to become writers or artists, I’m here for them. My talks are warm, practical, and a little playful—designed to leave people thinking, “Okay… I can actually do this.”

I speak to writers’ groups, conferences, libraries, creative retreats, and community organizations about the intersection of story, creativity, and technology. As an author of cozy mysteries, later‑in‑life romance, interactive mystery games, trivia and road‑trip books, and 60+ nonfiction titles, I specialize in making big, intimidating topics feel clear, hopeful, and genuinely usable. My background as a former attorney and tech entrepreneur means I bring both structure and real‑world experience to every session.

Sample Speaking Topics

  • AI for Writers: A Practical, Human‑First Approach
A clear, non‑hype introduction to using AI as a writing assistant—not a replacement. We explore brainstorming, research, structure, ethical use, and how to keep your voice front and center while still taking advantage of smart tools.

  • AI for Artists: Protecting Your Voice While Using New Tools
Designed for visual and creative artists who feel both curious and cautious about AI. This talk covers where AI can truly help (ideas, organization, admin), where to be careful, and how to stay grounded in your own style and values while the tools evolve.

  • Getting a Book Started: Where to Begin When You Feel Overwhelmed
Perfect for aspiring or stalled writers. We walk through choosing a workable idea, shaping it into a simple structure, and building a realistic writing plan—whether the project is a cozy mystery, a romance, nonfiction, or an interactive concept.

  • Journaling Your Way to Writing
For people who aren’t sure they’re “real writers” yet. This session shows how simple journaling can become a bridge into story, memoir, or fiction. We talk about low‑pressure prompts, mining journal pages for ideas, and turning raw notes into early drafts.

  • Designing Interactive Mysteries and Story‑Based Games
How to turn a traditional story into a playable experience. We look at clues, secrets, pacing, and structure for HTML/PDF mysteries, party games, and library or book‑club events.

  • Later‑in‑Life Romance: Writing Love Stories for Grown‑Ups
Why love stories for readers 40+ matter, how they differ from younger romance, and ways to write hopeful, funny, emotionally honest romances without explicit content.

  • Turning History & Pop Culture into Playful Trivia and Road‑Trip Books
A behind‑the‑scenes look at The Decades and America’s 250th titles. We explore how to mine history and pop culture for questions, activities, and stories that work for families, classrooms, and road trips.

  • Writing Through Hard Seasons: Creativity After Burnout, Grief, or Depression
An encouraging session that draws on my own journey and nonfiction work. We talk about rebuilding a creative life when energy and confidence are low, and how to move forward gently without “hustle culture” pressure.

Formats & Fees

Talks can be offered as keynotes, breakout sessions, half‑day workshops, or interactive small‑group labs. Every event is a little different, so fees vary based on length, audience size, and travel needs. I’m happy to work with you to design a session that fits your goals and your budget.
