Looking for inspiration?

It is a good idea to collect magazines and books so you can see the things that spark your interest. Cut out inspiring ideas, articles and photos and paste them into large sketchbooks. Your book might also contain pressed flowers, leaves, bits of fabric, etc. There is no “right” way to do this. It is all about what inspires you.

An idea nursery is not used to copy designs, but rather to inspire. For example, I might find a photo of a kitchen I really like and design a clock that I think would look great in it, or use a color combination in an advertisement in a design. Don’t question it how you might use it. If it appeals to you, save it. Your brain will make the connection later.

Write down your ideas – no matter where you are. My book is filled with sketches on the back of torn pieces of paper and deposit slips. When inspiration hits, get it down on paper so you will have it when you need it.
